The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce granted the 2012 Jeanne Bellamy Scholarship to Mayen Vergara, a senior at the School for Advanced Studies. The $ 2,500 scholarship is awarded each year to a high-achieving female senior who attends a Miami Dade County public high school and intends to study business in college. College Admissions Assistance continued its annual tradition of contributing $ 1000 to the scholarship amount.

Mayen currently has a 5.6 GPA and plans to attend the University of Miami in the fall, where she will major in business. She has a genuine passion for science and the processes of production, distribution, and the consumption of goods and services. She has already completed courses in economics and business as part of her high school curriculum. Also, having worked alongside her uncle in a family-owned auto shop during the summers, Mayen has developed an entrepreneurial spirit, and learned many valuable business and organizational skills. The installation of 30 replicas of the Brockhaus Encyclopedia – each of them 3,40m high – placed in a formation reminiscent of Stonehenge was a tribute to the timeless validity of the knowledge in the encyclopedias of Brockhaus. The circle of enormous books could be entered from all sides. In addition, a permanent sound performance could be heard from each of the different volumes: the knowledge of the world became audible. For the unveiling of the installation, a phonetic opera for 30 + 1 voices was composed and performed, with the choir standing high above the audience in the Brockhaus-replicas, and the soloist in the middle of the circle.

Serving book fans for a quarter of a century; the biggest cultural expo in the middle is ready to open its doors to the public. This year Tehran’s 25th international book fair covers an area of 200 thousand square meters designed to host an estimated five million visitors in a period of ten days. As of previous years the event was inaugurated by Iran’s President prior to its grand opening to the public. Tehran’s annual international book fair is one of the biggest book events in the world. Many domestic publishers and visitors travel hundreds of kilometers to reach the venue. According to Iran’s culture ministry more than 1600 foreign publishers from 77 countries will be attending the book fair with their latest books and journals in different languages. Despite the huge welcome that the expo receives every year, Iran’s cultural authorities believe that book reading has not received enough publicity in Iran and that Iranians will have to spend more time reading in Iran. The government looks at Tehran’s international book fair as an effective way to promote book reading especially among the younger generation of Iran. Tehran’s 25th international book fair will be open from May 2nd to May 12th.

Leibrock establishes parameters and guidelines in solving drug addiction problems from the methods he learned with his experience. He lists and describes the useful rehabilitation clinics, drug rehab programs, and support groups for recovering drug addicts. He has learned never to give up on kids, to utilize their natural resilience to fight back against their addiction. This is a remarkable book that is important in the annals of fighting the drug problem.
